In 2005, total gross state product was a whopping $40 billion, despite a population of fewer than 700,000 residents. Per capita income was an impressive $60,000, making it third in the entire country. Obviously, there are numerous business opportunities for those with extensive MBA training. And although seafood and energy are unquestionably the most lucrative industries, there are many government, shipping, transportation, and military opportunities as well.
Alaska is also decidedly business-friendly, and has consistently rejected motions for state sales taxes. Property taxes are also notoriously low, with an average payout of less than $1000 a year. MBA degree holders who opt to work in the online services industry will find that their efforts go much farther in a state like Alaska, since most fees and regulations concentrate solely on imported goods.
