Despite Utah's reputation as a Republican stronghold, it is decidedly more libertarian than most other states in the union. As such, businesses enjoy a hands-off government approach when conducting their various operations. This is in direct contrast to Utah's economy during the 1950s, which was very dependent on government involvement. These days, industries such as tourism, mining, mineral extraction, and agriculture contribute to Utah's $83 billion gross state product. The strength of Utah's economy is best illustrated in its strong charity involvement. According to the IRS, Utah ranks first among U.S. states in per capita donations by wealthy residents. It's also interesting to note that despite Utah's high youth population, it has the lowest childhood poverty rate in the country. Suffice to say that MBA degree holders in the Beehive State enjoy a unique blend of economic advantages that are worth exploring.
